The Opportunity:
Are you an accounting professional who enjoys solving problems, improving processes, and turning financial information into meaningful insights? We’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented accounting professional to join a collaborative finance team.
In this role, you’ll play an important part in maintaining the integrity of financial records, supporting financial reporting activities, and strengthening accounting processes and internal controls. You’ll have opportunities to work with colleagues across the organization, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and broaden your technical accounting knowledge in a dynamic environment.
This is a hybrid role with roughly once per month in our downtown Toronto office.
How You’ll Make an Impact:
- Take ownership of key month-end and quarter-end accounting activities, including preparing journal entries, developing supporting schedules, and completing balance sheet reporting requirements.
- Oversee the accuracy of designated general ledger accounts through regular reconciliations, investigating unusual movements and partnering with internal teams to address outstanding items.
- Dig into discrepancies and financial variances, identify root causes, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure timely and effective resolution.
- Help establish and maintain clear accounting guidelines, process documentation, and procedural resources that support consistency across the team.
- Look for opportunities to simplify and strengthen existing accounting practices, introducing practical solutions that improve accuracy, efficiency, and overall workflow.
- Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the organization's financial control environment by researching potential improvements and supporting their implementation.
- Participate in technical accounting research, assess emerging accounting requirements, and help prepare supporting analysis and documentation to guide accounting decisions.
- Support internal and external audit engagements by coordinating requested information, preparing audit schedules, and providing supporting evidence throughout the review process.
- Get involved in broader finance projects, including process optimization, technology enhancements, and cross-departmental initiatives.
What You Bring to the Team:
- A post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience.
- Approximately 1–3 years of experience in corporate accounting, financial reporting, or a related accounting function, with a desire to continue building your expertise.
- A good working knowledge of accounting fundamentals and financial reporting practices, ideally including exposure to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Strong Microsoft Excel capabilities, including Pivot Tables, lookup functions, SUMIFS, and the ability to create well-organized financial schedules and working papers.
- An analytical mindset and the confidence to investigate issues, interpret financial information, and develop practical solutions.
- Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate with stakeholders at different levels.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to balance competing priorities while consistently delivering accurate, high-quality work within established deadlines.
- A proactive approach, a strong sense of accountability, and an appreciation for accuracy and attention to detail.
Additional Experience That Would Set You Apart:
- Exposure to enterprise resource planning (ERP) platforms such as Workday, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar financial systems.
- Previous experience in financial services, insurance, banking, wealth management, or another regulated industry.
- Practical knowledge of specialized IFRS accounting standards, particularly IFRS 9 or IFRS 17.
- Experience using Power Query or Power BI to streamline reporting, analyze financial data, or improve existing processes.
