Procedural nursing offers a unique rhythm where you can deliver highly focused care without the competing demands of a traditional inpatient ward. As a Registered Practical Nurse, Endoscopy at Mount Sinai Hospital, you will support patients through the preparation, procedure and recovery stages within our newly modernized intake and recovery bays. This role gives you the room to develop specialized procedural skills in gastrointestinal and respiratory care, supported by a unit built for growth. Unit-based education ensures your practice evolves confidently alongside advancements in specialized procedural instrumentation. For an RPN ready to build lasting expertise in a specialty nursing role, this is an opportunity to enhance your skillset while influencing early disease detection and procedural recoveries.
Is this you?
Composure under pressure is a strength you bring to fast-moving environments, like Endoscopy. Reading a subtle shift in a patient's condition during a short recovery window or catching a detail on a chart before a case begins, requires that same steady focus. You act with confidence in those short assessment windows, even as the schedule moves quickly from one patient to the next. That attention to detail carries throughout your day, whether you are confirming readiness before a procedure or watching closely through recovery. This combination of precision and composure will allow you to support patients through the unit safely, procedure after procedure.
Establishing trust rapidly is essential when interacting with individuals preparing for vulnerable diagnostic procedures. In practice, this means explaining the sequence of events and setting clear expectations for post-sedation recovery during brief intake encounters. Your calm demeanor helps patients process clinical information without feeling rushed by the fast pace of the unit. Easing these anxieties transforms a potentially intimidating hospital visit into a highly supportive experience.
Are you driven by a desire to continuously expand your clinical knowledge within a highly technical specialty? You apply this curiosity daily by working to understand not just the steps of a procedure, but also the reasoning behind each step. Unit-based education will keep you current as new instrumentation and techniques are introduced to the program. You’ll bring that same engagement when learning about changes in workflow, treating each update as a chance to sharpen your skill set. This mindful investment in learning will enable your practice to keep pace with a specialty that continues to evolve.
