Job Title: SAP Payroll Functional Lead

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced SAP Payroll Functional Lead to lead the design, configuration, conversion, and implementation of SAP Payroll for US and Canadian operations.
The ideal candidate must have strong hands-on experience with SAP HCM Payroll (HCM-PY), including payroll schemas, PCRs, wage types, tax configurations, statutory deductions, and North American payroll regulations. The role requires expertise in both US and Canadian payroll processing, regulatory compliance, and integration with SAP Finance.
Key Responsibilities
SAP Payroll Configuration & Implementation
•
Lead SAP HCM Payroll (HCM-PY) design, configuration, and implementation for US and Canadian payroll.
•
Configure payroll schemas, Personnel Calculation Rules (PCRs), wage types, and payroll calculation rules.
•
Analyze legacy payroll systems, map existing processes to SAP, and identify functional gaps.
•
Configure payroll control records, organizational structures, employee master data, and payroll calendars.
•
Configure statutory deductions, payroll taxes, benefits, and compensation structures.
•
Establish payroll posting and integration with SAP Finance (FI).
US & Canada Payroll Compliance
•
Ensure payroll configurations comply with US federal/state and Canadian federal/provincial regulations.
•
Maintain knowledge of CRA and IRS payroll legislation and statutory requirements.
•
Manage payroll tax updates and legislative changes across North America.
•
Configure state- and province-specific tax calculations and statutory deductions.
•
Support configuration of workers' compensation, Employment Insurance (EI), and other statutory requirements.
•
Coordinate with Finance and Compliance teams to implement regulatory changes.
•
Maintain payroll compliance documentation, audit records, and control matrices.
Payroll Operations & Integration
•
Oversee SAP payroll configuration across multiple US and Canadian legal entities.
•
Manage multi-currency payroll processing (USD and CAD).
•
Establish payroll validation, reconciliation, and control procedures.
•
Support payroll testing, parallel runs, data conversion, cutover, and go-live activities.
•
Ensure accurate payroll processing and integration with downstream financial systems.
•
Provide functional leadership and resolve complex payroll configuration issues.
Required Skills & Experience
•
Strong hands-on experience with SAP HCM Payroll (HCM-PY) configuration and implementation.
•
Proven experience supporting both US and Canadian payroll.
•
Expertise in payroll schemas, PCRs, wage types, and payroll calculation rules.
•
Strong understanding of US federal/state and Canadian federal/provincial payroll regulations.
•
Experience with CRA, IRS, CPP, EI, and statutory payroll deductions.
•
Experience with payroll tax configuration and legislative updates.
•
Knowledge of SAP FI payroll posting and financial integration.
•
Experience with payroll conversion, implementation, parallel testing, and go-live.
•
Understanding of multi-entity and multi-currency payroll processing (USD/CAD).
Preferred Qualifications
•
Experience leading North American payroll transformation or implementation projects.
•
Experience migrating payroll from legacy systems to SAP.
•
Strong stakeholder management and functional leadership skills.
•
Experience working with HR, Finance, Compliance, and technical teams.
