Engagement Manager, Project & Interim: Finance & Accounting
Position Type: New Position
Clarity Recruitment | Project & Interim | Toronto / Oakville (hybrid) | Full-time
About Clarity
Clarity is a recruitment agency for companies experiencing rapid growth or transformation. Our approach has always blended a human-centric process, built on quality and trust, with innovative hiring technology that enables speed and delivery. We are specialized recruiters in Finance, HR, Operations, and Technology, not generalists.
We help companies hire exceptional leaders and build the teams that support them through direct hires and project and interim consultants. We believe the right hire and the right job can change everything.
What You'll Do
In this role, you'll build relationships with CFOs and senior finance leaders, develop new business, and become a trusted partner to clients navigating growth, transformation, and change. You'll sell senior Project and Interim finance and accounting talent: controllers, FP&A leads, finance managers, through interim VPs and CFOs. You'll build your own portfolio while playing an important role in the continued growth of Clarity Recruitment's Project & Interim division.
- Build and grow a portfolio of clients through networking, targeted outreach, social selling, referrals, and relationship development.
- Develop meaningful, long-running relationships with CFOs and other senior finance leaders. Stay connected with clients beyond their immediate hiring needs, so when a controller resigns, a new system is implemented, or an audit creates unexpected demands, you're the first person they call.
- Consult with clients at different stages of growth and transformation, helping them identify the senior finance and accounting talent and expertise they need to move their business forward.
- Run a structured discovery on every opportunity: the business problem, the decision makers, the timeline, the budget, and what success looks like, before a search starts.
- Provide insight into the talent market, including candidate availability, compensation, hiring trends, and market conditions.
- Develop tailored talent solutions based on each client's business needs, challenges, and priorities, from a single interim hire to a project team.
- Identify opportunities to expand relationships and introduce additional Clarity services, including permanent search and our technology and AI talent offering, where they add value.
- Own the sales process from prospecting and relationship development through negotiation and close.
- Partner closely with our Recruitment team to deliver an exceptional experience for both clients and consultants and stay close to your placements through their first ninety days.
- Collaborate across Clarity's divisions to support clients more broadly, working inside our account rules, so clients hear one Clarity voice.
- Leverage Clarity’s AI and automation tools to streamline research, list building, note-taking, scheduling, and follow-up, freeing up more time to build relationships and have meaningful conversations with clients.
- Contribute ideas, processes, and best practices that help us scale the Project & Interim business and continually improve the client experience.
- Attend in-person training, meetings, and company events in our Oakville or Toronto offices as needed.
What You'll Bring
You are an experienced sales professional first. You enjoy building relationships, creating opportunities, and working with senior business leaders. You're commercially minded, comfortable initiating conversations, and motivated by both individual success and helping grow a business. You listen more than you talk, you build credibility quickly, and you are the kind of person clients are glad to hear from.
- 3 to 5 years of B2B sales, business development, or recruitment experience. Experience selling recruitment or staffing services is strongly preferred.
- Experience in finance and accounting recruitment, or selling to finance leaders, is preferred.
- A proven ability to develop new business through proactive outreach, networking, and relationship building, and the persistence to stay present in a relationship over years without being a nuisance.
- A track record of meeting or exceeding sales or revenue targets.
- Confidence building relationships with CFOs, finance executives and other senior leaders, and the judgment to be a resource rather than a salesperson in those conversations.
- Strong commercial judgment and the ability to understand a client's business needs beyond an immediate hiring requirement.
- You listen and show it: you tie together what a client told you three calls ago; you answer the question that was asked, and you don't speak in circles.
- Coachability. Clarity runs a defined discovery and sales method, and we'd rather teach it to a strong salesperson than hire someone who already knows everything.
- High emotional intelligence and the ability to establish credibility and trust with different personalities and seniority levels.
- Resilience, curiosity, and comfort working in an entrepreneurial environment where priorities can evolve.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
- You look for leverage in every part of your work, including how AI changes the sales process. You've experimented with AI tools, you have results to talk about, or you have a real interest in learning. Clarity is rebuilding as an AI-augmented firm, and you'll be given the tools to match.
- Familiarity with tools such as LinkedIn Sales Navigator, ZoomInfo, Fireflies, and applicant tracking or CRM systems is an asset.
- An undergraduate degree is an asset. A finance or accounting background, including a CPA designation, is also an asset.
