Senior Full-Stack Engineer (React/Node/Postgres/AWS)
Location: Hybrid (Toronto-based)
Type: Full-Time • Start: Immediate
About BorderPass
BorderPass is one of the fastest-growing companies in North America, on a mission to simplify global mobility. We help international students and workers navigate complex immigration processes by combining legal expertise with powerful technology. Our platform serves students, employers, and institutions for immigration compliance, financial onboarding, housing, and settlement, all in one place.
The Role
We’re hiring a Senior Full-Stack Engineer to own end-to-end delivery of features (from React UI to Node.js services and Postgres) running on AWS. You’ll shape architecture, ship high-impact product experiences, and raise the engineering bar through code quality, reliability, and performance. An interest in DevOps and platform/tooling work is a big plus.
What You’ll Do
- Build product end-to-end: React (Next.js) frontends, Node.js APIs/services, Postgres data models & queries
- Design architecture: Translate product requirements into scalable, secure designs on AWS (e.g., ECS/Lambda, RDS Postgres, S3/CloudFront, SQS/SNS, IAM, VPC)
- Own quality & performance: Profiling, caching, pagination/streaming, SQL tuning, a11y, and cross-browser reliability
- Integrate APIs: REST/GraphQL (auth, billing, document workflows), with robust error handling and observability
- Automate & ship: CI/CD pipelines, test coverage (unit/integration/e2e), feature flags, canary/blue-green where appropriate
- Collaborate & mentor: Partner with product/design/legal engineering; lead code reviews; mentor mid/junior engineers
- Security by default: Secrets management, least-privilege IAM, input validation, and compliance-minded data handling
Our Stack (you don’t need all, but you’re strong across most)
- Frontend: React, Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind; form libs (React Hook Form/Formik); testing with Jest/Testing Library/Playwright
- Backend: Node.js (Express/Nest or similar), TypeScript, REST/GraphQL, JWT/OAuth; ORMs/Migrations (Prisma/Sequelize/Kysley)
- Database: Postgres (schema design, migrations, indexes, query tuning); Redis for cache/queues
- Cloud: AWS (ECS/Lambda, RDS Postgres, S3/CloudFront, SQS/SNS, CloudWatch, Parameter Store/Secrets Manager)
- DevOps: GitHub CI/CD (GitHub Actions), Docker, IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation), Sentry
Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional software engineering, including 3+ years building production apps with React + TypeScript and Node.js
- Deep experience with Postgres: schema design, query optimization, migrations, and data integrity
- Solid AWS experience operating production workloads (networking, IAM, security, cost/perf awareness)
- Strong system design skills: API design, data modeling, modular architecture, and trade-off reasoning
- Good foundation in security practices for system design and implementation
- Proven delivery: tests, code reviews, monitoring/alerting, and incident-aware development
- Excellent communication; comfortable collaborating with design, product, and non-technical stakeholders
Bonus (nice to have)
- DevOps inclination: Docker, Terraform, CI/CD ownership, observability, performance budgets
- Next.js app-router, edge rendering, SEO for SSR/ISR
- Experience in regulated domains (legal tech/fintech/gov) or document-heavy workflows
- GraphQL (schema design, federations, typed documents/codegen)
Why Join Us
- Mission-driven team improving global access and equity
- High ownership, modern stack, and meaningful product impact
- Competitive salary & equity, remote-first flexibility (Canada)

How to Apply
Send your resume and links (GitHub, portfolio, notable PRs) with a brief note on a system you’ve architected end-to-end (what you built, trade-offs, results).
