Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Software Developer III – Java to join the AI & Open Data Enablement Product Group. This team delivers enterprise-scale technology platforms that enable secure data sharing, real-time event processing, customer-controlled consent, and digital banking capabilities.
The successful candidate will contribute to a large-scale platform modernization initiative, developing and enhancing backend or full-stack applications in a collaborative Agile environment. This role is ideal for a Java Developer with strong software engineering fundamentals, experience with Jira and Confluence, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable solutions.
About the Team
The AI & Open Data Enablement Product Group supports foundational platforms and capabilities across the bank, including:
- Open Banking
- Data at the Edge
- Digital Event Streaming
- eConsent
- Customer Preferences
These platforms support digital experiences, regulatory requirements, secure data sharing, and AI-driven use cases through trusted, high-quality data.
You will join an approximately eight-member, collaborative team working closely with engineers, business systems analysts, quality engineers, and product partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in Agile delivery ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint demos, and retrospectives.
- Develop, test, and maintain Java-based backend services and full-stack applications.
- Contribute to platform modernization initiatives, including new features, enhancements, and automation.
- Deliver assigned backlog items from development through testing and implementation.
- Develop and maintain code and configuration changes in accordance with established software development lifecycle (SDLC) standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver effective technical solutions.
- Create and maintain technical and operational documentation, including architecture notes, runbooks, onboarding guides, and API documentation.
- Improve application quality and reliability through testing, automation, monitoring, and technical debt reduction.
- Troubleshoot issues, maintain code quality, and ensure timely delivery of assigned work.
- Follow established engineering practices, security requirements, and quality standards.
Must-Have Skills and Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on Java development experience.
- 5+ years of experience in backend development or full-stack software development.
- Practical experience using Jira and Confluence.
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum software development environment.
- Strong understanding of software development principles, coding standards, and application testing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and proactive, with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with Angular or other modern frontend frameworks.
- Experience with NoSQL databases, particularly MS Azure Cosmos DB.
- Previous experience in banking, financial services, or other financial institutions.
- Exposure to platform modernization, event-driven systems, APIs, or enterprise-scale applications.
