Our Organization
RenoMe helps people develop the skills, confidence, and relationships to move forward professionally and contribute to their communities. Through practical learning, mentorship, and shared experiences, we support youth, new arrivals to Canada, internationally trained professionals, professionals in transition, and emerging leaders across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.
Our work centres on three programs: RenoMe Voice, which develops communication and public-speaking skills; RenoMe to Lead, which strengthens leadership and collaboration; and RenoMe for Future, which builds digital confidence and practical AI literacy.
As we develop these programs, we are building a volunteer team with the experience and commitment to turn our purpose into meaningful opportunities for participants.
The Role
We are seeking one Volunteer Head of Human Resources to establish a practical HR framework for RenoMe’s volunteer teams.
Working directly with the RenoMe Executive Team, you will connect our recruitment activities with consistent selection, onboarding, and volunteer-support practices. You will review what is already in place, identify gaps, and develop processes that are straightforward for applicants, volunteers, and program leaders to use.
The role combines strategic responsibility with hands-on delivery. You will guide recruitment priorities, support interviews and selection, prepare essential HR documents, and help team leaders manage the volunteer experience. Your work will support our three programs and the volunteers contributing to events, outreach, communications, fundraising, and administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess current volunteer recruitment and onboarding practices, then establish an achievable plan for improving them.
- Work with the Executive Team and program leaders to define volunteer needs, responsibilities, selection criteria, and time commitments.
- Maintain a consistent set of role descriptions and coordinate recruitment through appropriate professional and community channels.
- Organize applications and candidate communications, with clear recruitment stages, ownership, and follow-up.
- Introduce structured interviews and practical assessment tools that support fair, consistent selection. Recommend appointments for Executive Team approval.
- Develop orientation materials, volunteer agreement templates, confidentiality documents, conduct guidance, and a concise volunteer handbook.
- Recommend screening and safeguarding measures appropriate to each role’s responsibilities, referring policy decisions to the Executive Team.
- Help program leaders set expectations, conduct volunteer check-ins, respond to concerns, and recognize contributions.
- Establish respectful processes for feedback, role changes, departures, and knowledge transfer.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality and access to applicant and volunteer records, and provide concise updates on recruitment and team-support priorities.
Desired Skills and Expertise
- Demonstrated experience in human resources, recruitment, talent acquisition, or volunteer management.
- Experience developing HR procedures, documentation, or people-support practices.
- Strong interviewing skills and the ability to advise managers or team leads on selection decisions.
- Clear, professional writing and the ability to produce documents people can understand and use.
- Good judgment when handling confidential information, interpersonal concerns, and competing priorities.
- Familiarity with inclusive recruitment and volunteer-management practices in a Canadian context.
- Confidence using shared documents, spreadsheets, applicant tracking systems, or comparable tools.
- The ability to work independently while maintaining reliable communication and follow-through.
- An interest in professional development, community participation, and RenoMe’s mission.
Experience in a nonprofit, community organization, or developing team would be an asset. Relevant HR qualifications or professional designations are welcome. We also value equivalent experience gained in Canada or internationally.
Benefits
- Shape how RenoMe recruits, welcomes, and supports its volunteers.
- Apply your HR expertise to community programs focused on communication, leadership, and digital skills.
- Collaborate directly with the Executive Team and professionals contributing across several disciplines.
- Develop further experience in HR leadership, volunteer operations, and organizational development.
- Receive a reference letter following successful completion of the agreed volunteer term.
The Commitment
- This is an unpaid volunteer position.
- Approximately 6–10 hours per week, with flexibility around your schedule.
- An initial six-month term, with extension by mutual agreement.
- Primarily remote, with occasional meetings or activities in Toronto or Hamilton arranged by agreement.
- Reporting to the RenoMe Executive Team.
Priorities, available support, and expected outcomes will be agreed before you begin. Responsibilities will be planned around the agreed volunteer commitment.
