Snaplii is hiring a VP of Finance in Toronto who can manage the books, the money, the transactions and the systems together, and who still digs in personally when something breaks.
About Snaplii
Snaplii is a profitable North American wallet and payments platform for people and their AI agents, with offices in Toronto and Silicon Valley.
- 400K+ users and about US$150M in annual payment volume
- 500+ brand partners, including Costco, Walmart and Uber
- Now building financial infrastructure for people and their AI agents: Snaplii is already live on Muse, with about 2,000 AI agents running on it
What You'll Do
You report to the CEO and lead the finance organization, including our Financial Controller. In priority order:
- Finance and controls. Own month-end close, financial reporting, external audit and internal controls across our Canada and US entities.
- Payments finance operations. You don't reconcile every transaction yourself, but you own the whole mechanism and the outcome of every exception:
- End-to-end reconciliation across internal transaction records, the user balance ledger, payment processor records and bank statements
- Settlement and payouts: correct amounts, timing, receiving entities and approval authority
- Exceptions such as missing orders, duplicate payments, delayed settlements, fee differences and refunds not received, traced and closed out
- Clear accounting and control boundaries between company operating funds, user funds and settlement funds
- Treasury and liquidity: funds kept safe, liquidity sufficient and settlements accurate, with strong bank and payment-processor relationships
- Digital transformation. Find the manual, error-prone steps in finance and payment operations, then work with product and engineering to automate them and to monitor for fund discrepancies, late settlements and unusual transactions.
- Team. Lead, coach and grow the finance team, starting with the Financial Controller.
- Fundraising and investments. Partner with the CEO on fundraising, board and investor materials and the numbers behind major decisions; oversee corporate investments.
- Compliance, over time. Work with our compliance lead on fund controls, audit evidence and bank requirements, with room to take on more compliance responsibility as you grow into the role.
How You'll Work
This is a startup seat: you manage the team and do the work yourself.
- While the team is still being built, you dig into the books, chase discrepancies and deal with banks and payment processors yourself
- You make sound calls with incomplete information, and bring risks and proposed fixes to the CEO early
- When you find a cross-team problem, you push it through to resolution instead of only reporting it
- You keep daily money movement and finance running while you build the systems underneath
What You Bring
- CPA designation, with a strong accounting and Controller foundation
- Experience leading a full finance function and managing a team
- End-to-end ownership of month-end close, financial statements, external audit and internal controls
- Hands-on experience with payment or transaction fund flows: reconciliation, settlement, payouts and refunds
- You have led at least one digital transformation of a finance or payment-operations process and can explain the results before and after. You don't need to write code, but you can read a process, define the rules and verify the outcome
- Real banking and payment-processor relationship experience you can walk us through with examples
- Professional working proficiency in both English and Mandarin
- Based in the Greater Toronto Area and able to work from our Toronto office
The strongest fit has grown from Controller or finance operations at a payments, wallet, fintech or high-volume platform company, rebuilt systems hands-on and led a small team. Big-company titles count less than having managed the books, the funds and the transaction flows together.
Nice to have
- Experience in payments, fintech or other regulated businesses, working with compliance on fund controls, audit evidence and bank requirements
- SQL, BI or API data experience (real implementations matter more than tool names)
- Multi-entity finance across Canada and the US
- Fundraising, bank credit facilities, data rooms, or investor and board communication
- Business analytics: runway, unit economics and operating KPIs
Compensation and location
The role offers an annual compensation package of up to CAD $300,000, including base salary and a performance-based bonus, depending on experience.
Based in our Toronto office. Our team works in both English and Mandarin.
