Cybersecurity Engineer

About Remitra
Remitra is a Canadian fintech company building digital payment and money transfer solutions. We’re looking for a Cybersecurity Engineer to join the security department within our IT team and help protect our applications, infrastructure and customer information as we grow.
This role is suited to someone with at least one year of hands-on cybersecurity experience who enjoys identifying risks, investigating threats and working with developers to build secure systems. Experience in fintech, banking or payments is preferred.
What you’ll do
- Monitor systems, applications and security alerts to identify suspicious activity.
- Investigate security incidents and support response, recovery and prevention efforts.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments, prioritize findings and work with developers to resolve issues.
- Help secure our web and mobile applications, APIs and cloud infrastructure.
- Review access permissions, authentication controls and security configurations.
- Support secure development practices, including code scanning, dependency checks and secrets management.
- Maintain security documentation, incident procedures and technical evidence for audits.
- Help strengthen employee security awareness and protection against phishing and account compromise.
What we’re looking for
- At least one-three years of professional experience in cybersecurity, information security or a related security engineering role.
- Working knowledge of network security, cloud security, access management and encryption.
- Familiarity with common web and API vulnerabilities, including the OWASP Top 10.
- Experience using security monitoring, vulnerability scanning or endpoint protection tools.
- Understanding of incident response and vulnerability remediation.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to explain security issues clearly.
- A degree or diploma in cybersecurity, computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to have
- Experience in fintech, banking, payments or another regulated environment.
- Familiarity with AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud.
- Scripting skills in Python, PowerShell or Bash.
- Exposure to penetration testing, DevSecOps or security reviews of third-party integrations.
- Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CySA+ or equivalent.
