This individual will be responsible for developing, improving, supporting, and rationalizing business-critical Excel tools while also using Python and SQL to deliver practical solutions for end users.
This is a highly hands-on, business-facing role working directly with traders, middle and back-office users, and technical teams. The successful candidate will be comfortable independently digging into existing tools, troubleshooting issues as they arise, translating non-technical user needs into solutions, and delivering quick wins alongside short-term project work.
RESPONSIBILITIES / TASKS:
- Develop, enhance, maintain, and troubleshoot Excel-based applications and tools used by business users
- Assess existing Excel tools to determine where they should be improved, fixed, replaced, or retired
- Work directly with traders and other business users to understand requirements, investigate issues, and translate business needs into practical technical solutions
- Develop new tools and small enhancements using Excel, Python, and SQL to address evolving business requirements
- Respond to day-to-day production issues and independently investigate root causes through to resolution
- Balance short-term project work, new requirements, production support, and quick-turn enhancement requests in a busy environment
- Collaborate with other developers and IT teams while contributing to the broader tools team's initiatives and priorities
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- 2–5 years of hands-on Excel development experience, including building Excel-based tools or applications beyond standard end-user functionality such as formulas and pivot tables
- Demonstrated experience developing and supporting Excel applications used within a business function or vertical
- Hands-on development experience with Python
- Working knowledge of SQL, including querying and working with relational data
- Experience owning day-to-day business tooling, including development, enhancements, troubleshooting, and user support
- Experience working directly with end users to gather requirements and build or improve tools based on their needs
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a willingness to dig into unfamiliar applications, data, and processes
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver solutions in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to guide non-technical users through requirements and solutions while also collaborating effectively with technical teams
