About the role
Reporting to the Controller, the General Accountant is a core member of the Controllership team and owns the accuracy and timeliness of the general ledger across multiple legal entities. You will lead key parts of the month-end and year-end close, manage intercompany and multi-currency (CAD and USD) accounting, and support consolidated reporting and the annual audit. You will work closely with the Controller and colleagues in accounts payable and expenses, billing and accounts receivable, and FP&A. You will also help shape how Finance uses AI and automation: applying them to reconciliations, close tasks, and analysis, while keeping the judgment, review, and controls that make the numbers trustworthy.
Key Responsibilities:
Month-End & Year-End Close
- Prepare and post journal entries for accruals, prepaid expenses, deferred revenue, and other recurring and non-recurring items
- Maintain fixed asset registers and calculate and record amortization
- Complete assigned close activities across entities, with accurate supporting schedules delivered within established timelines
- Use AI-assisted tools to flag unusual entries, unexpected variances, and missing accruals before the books close
- Support year-end close, including year-end adjustments and supporting schedules
Account Reconciliations
- Prepare and maintain complex balance sheet reconciliations, including accruals, work in progress, and deferred revenue, with clear supporting schedules
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations across multiple banking relationships and currencies

Audit, Tax & Compliance
- Prepare PBC (provided-by-client) schedules and supporting documentation for the year-end external audit, and respond to auditor queries
- Support GST/HST returns and other statutory and regulatory filings
- Operate and help maintain internal controls over financial reporting within the close process, including controls over AI-assisted work (review, approval, and audit trail)
Analysis & Collaboration
- Partner with the Expense & AP team, FP&A, and cash management, including support for the weekly cash position and 13-week cash forecast
- Explain variances clearly, using AI tools to speed up analysis and first-draft commentary, and applying your own judgment to the final message
- Maintain GL hygiene and help keep the chart of accounts consistent across entities
Process Improvement & AI Enablement
- Document and update standard operating procedures for close and reconciliation processes, including where AI and automation are used and where human review is required
- Identify, test, and help implement ERP, automation, and AI improvements that shorten the close and reduce manual work

Ad Hoc Projects
- Contribute to special projects and analysis as requested by the Controller and VP Finance
