The Opportunity
This is an entry-level opportunity for a recent engineering or engineering technology graduate who wants to build a career in building assessment. Working alongside experienced consultants, you’ll take part in property condition assessments, reserve fund studies and building investigations, collecting field data, drafting reports and researching repair costs. You’ll gain hands-on experience across a wide range of buildings and building systems, with regular feedback as you grow toward running assessments on your own. We’ll also support your path to professional licensure, including EIT registration and keeping a record of your engineering experience.
What You’ll Do
- Join senior consultants on property condition assessments, recording accurate observations, measurements and photographs, and progressively take on assessments of your own.
- Prepare draft reports for senior review and incorporate feedback.
- Assist with reserve fund studies, performance audits, pre-construction surveys and capital replacement studies, including researching repair costs.
- Support investigations of building issues, failures and deterioration.
- Prepare drawings and repair details in AutoCAD and help with construction specifications.
- Communicate professionally with clients, property managers and contractors on site.
What You Bring
Required
- Bachelor of Engineering (civil, architectural or a related discipline) or Engineering Technologist diploma (civil, architectural or building), completed or to be completed before the start date.
- Foundational understanding of building systems and construction, such as structure, building envelope, roofing, and mechanical and electrical systems.
- Strong written communication skills and the ability to produce clear, well-organized technical writing.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and familiarity with AutoCAD.
- Valid Ontario G driver’s licence and access to a vehicle for travel to client sites.
- Ability to access roofs and other building areas, including by ladder, and to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Nice to Have
- Co-op, internship or summer experience in building consulting, property condition assessments, building restoration or construction.
- EIT registration with PEO, or the intent to pursue P.Eng. licensure (or C.E.T. for technologists).
• Familiarity with ASTM E2018, the Condominium Act, 1998 or the Ontario Building Code.
- Coursework or project experience in building science.
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation, benefits, Group RRSP plan, and other perks
