Be part of an original reality series - from first shoot to streaming pitch.
Futura Sound is building the creative team behind a new original reality television project, with pilot material and a pitch package being developed for presentation to Netflix and other leading streaming platforms. We are seeking a hands-on producer/director to help shape the concept, guide authentic storytelling and bring compelling personalities to the screen. Join at the development stage and help define the project from the beginning.
About the Job
The music and entertainment division of Futura Investment and Development Inc. focuses on content creation, events, music production and marketing, artist development, publishing and digital distribution. We support emerging and established artists with creative resources, industry guidance and high-quality content.
We are now building the creative team behind an original reality television series, with the goal of developing, filming and completing the first 2–3 episodes for a pitch to Netflix and other leading streaming platforms. This is an opportunity to join at the beginning and help bring authentic stories, compelling personalities and a distinctive creative vision to the screen.
This is a paid, three-month engagement, with the possibility of extension based on production needs and project development.
This is an independently developed project intended for a Netflix pitch; it has not been commissioned by Netflix.
Project Scope & Schedule
This role combines unscripted development, field producing, directing and editorial leadership for the first 2–3 completed episodes, supported by a treatment and pitch package. The scope is not limited to a short promotional reel. Episode lengths, filming days, delivery milestones and review rounds will be agreed with Andrew and Tara before production begins.
A separate editor and production sound recordist are planned; the producer/director will guide and coordinate their work rather than personally provide every technical service or fund the production. Any extension or additional scope requires a separately agreed paid arrangement.
Equipment Available
· Two Sony FX3 full-frame cinema cameras; A DJI Mavic 4 Pro drone; a DJI RS 4 Pro Combo gimbal.
· Multiple Sony G Master lenses; multiple Sony TOUGH 960GB CFexpress Type A memory cards.
· Professional filters, monopods, tripods and camera supports.
· Professional storage drives, lighting and accessories, and other production equipment.
Producer / Director Will
Lead the project from concept development through filming and completion, working closely with the executive production team and a small specialist crew.
Development & Pre-production
· Collaborate with Andrew and Tara to refine the series premise, format, tone, target audience and creative vision.
· Develop a show treatment, participant profiles, story arcs and episode outlines for the first 2–3 episodes.
· Prepare scene plans, interview questions and story beats that support authentic storytelling without scripting participants’ dialogue.
· Build a practical development, filming and post-production schedule; agree episode lengths, milestones and review rounds before work begins.
· Help select and brief the camera, sound and editing team; coordinate participants, locations and production permissions with the executive producers.
Field Producing & Direction
· Direct interviews, observational scenes and on-location sequences, helping participants feel comfortable while preserving genuine reactions and events.
· Work with the director of photography and Camera B operator to plan two-camera coverage, maintain continuity and capture important story moments.
· Coordinate with the sound recordist and camera team so dialogue, reactions and visual coverage support a coherent edit.
· Track developing storylines and key moments, maintain useful production notes and identify missing coverage or follow-up interviews.
· Keep filming organized and focused; communicate scheduling, resource and budget risks early and obtain approval before additional spending or scope changes.
Post-production & Pitch Preparation
· Collaborate with the editor to shape the footage into 2–3 complete episodes with clear structure, engaging pacing and consistent storytelling.
· Review rough cuts, provide actionable editorial notes and consolidate feedback from Andrew and Tara within the agreed review process.
· Coordinate agreed editing, colour and sound-finishing milestones with the relevant specialists and support final quality review.
· Help develop the pitch presentation and supporting written materials; identify strong scenes or excerpts from the episodes to support the planned pitch.
· Oversee handover of the agreed completed episodes and pitch materials to the executive production team, tracking outstanding permissions, approvals and delivery items.
Skills & Experience
· Demonstrated professional experience producing or directing reality television, documentary series or other unscripted programming.
· Experience taking a project from development and filming through post-production to completed episodes, not only short promotional clips.
· Strong story-producing and interviewing skills, with the ability to recognize compelling personalities, natural conflict and meaningful character development.
· Confidence directing on-camera participants and leading a small, multi-camera crew in changing real-world environments.
· Ability to prepare practical schedules, prioritize resources and work responsibly within an independent production budget.
· Experience collaborating with editors, assessing story structure and communicating clear, constructive notes.
· Working knowledge of professional camera, audio and post-production workflows; familiarity with Sony FX3-based productions is an asset.
· Experience developing treatments, pilots or pitch packages is preferred. Relevant industry relationships are an asset; a guaranteed introduction or sale is not required.
Professional Attributes
· Creative and resourceful, with strong editorial judgment and the ability to turn ideas into an achievable production plan.
· Organized, dependable and proactive about deadlines, deliverables and changing production needs.
· A clear communicator and collaborative leader who can receive feedback and keep a small team aligned.
· Respectful of participants, discreet with confidential material and calm when filming unpredictable situations.
