UX/UI Designer, Research-Led (Construction Tech) | 6-Month Contract
We’re partnering with a global design and engineering software company whose tools are used to design and build much of the world around us: buildings, infrastructure, products and more. Their Construction Intelligence Research team is looking for a designer to help shape how construction professionals find information and work alongside AI on job sites.
The team
This isn’t a traditional design team. You’ll join a small, hands-on group of researchers and engineers exploring emerging technology across architecture, engineering and construction. You’d be the design voice in the room, so you’ll have real ownership and influence over the work.
What you’ll work on
- A construction platform that brings many data sources into one interface, so people on a project can quickly find what they need. It means large datasets and complex interactions, closer to an operational tool than a website.
- Early, exploratory work on how construction professionals will collaborate with AI agents in the field.
What you’ll do
- Plan and run user research yourself, including visits to active construction sites across the GTA
- Turn research findings into interaction design and high-fidelity UI
- Work closely with researchers and engineers to simplify complex information and workflows
- Use AI tools in your own design process (no specific platform required)
What you bring
- 3–5 years of experience in UX, product or interaction design. Senior candidates are welcome if the work is strong and relevant.
- A portfolio that clearly shows your process from research through to design
- Experience designing complex, data-heavy interfaces such as enterprise platforms, dashboards or operational tools
- Strong UI craft. Detailed, polished interaction and visual work matters here.
- Technical fluency, a proactive approach and comfort working independently
Nice to have
- A background in HCI or a related field
- An architecture degree, or familiarity with construction, architecture or architectural engineering. Designers with architecture backgrounds have done very well in this kind of role.
- Experience designing for field or frontline users, or for AI-powered features
The details
- 6-month full-time contract, with the possibility of extension
- Toronto-based, with 1–2 days onsite per month
- Two virtual interview rounds: a portfolio and background walkthrough, then a 45–60 minute follow-up
- Compensation: $45–$55/hr (T4 only, no corp-to-corp option available)
