The Team
Rundle Partners is a private equity investor in Canadian micro-cap companies, founded by Ian Black (Uber, Shopify, Bain). We invest in Canadian companies and help them grow with a tech-enabled, growth-oriented playbook. We are building a 50-year platform of operating businesses that compound in value and efficiency every year.
The portfolio company for this role is a leading Canadian professional services company, winning market share through the strength of its brand, team and client offering.
The Role
Rundle is hiring an exceptional strategist and builder for a high-intensity, 6–9 month sprint embedded directly within one of our portfolio companies. In this business, its professionals are the product and the primary engine of growth. You will lead the work to reimagine and elevate the professional experience: how professionals win and serve clients and grow their earnings, the operational and marketing support behind them, how they learn and develop, and how they communicate and work together. This is the company’s single most critical lever for long-term value creation.
The role will report directly to the Chair of the Board, Ian Black, and work closely with the CEO, COO and Rundle’s team. You will develop the roadmap in partnership with the company’s leadership team, who run the functions you will improve and will sustain your work after you leave. Ian’s background includes Bain & Co, leading the launch of Uber in Canada, scaling Uber Eats in North America during its hypergrowth phase, and driving global retail at Shopify.
What You’ll Do
This is a hands-on builder role. You will act as a Product Manager, with the Professional Experience as the product. You will diagnose the pain points, design the solution, and ship it yourself, using AI at each step. Technology and AI are your main tools, but sometimes the best fix is a new process, a role, or a better way of working. You will pick whichever works.
- Identify pain points: Interview and shadow the company’s professionals to identify their largest, most important pain points, and missed opportunities.
- Develop and ship solutions: Get a first improvement into professionals’ hands within your first month. Then keep a weekly rhythm of shipping and testing while you lead one or two larger initiatives that take longer and deliver more value.
- Drive Adoption: Work with the leaders and professionals who will use and run each change, so it gets adopted and lasts after launch.
- Measure Adoption and Impact: Success means professionals use what you build and it improves their productivity and experience. Track adoption, hours saved, and the downstream impact on productivity and retention.
- Build with Data & AI: Leverage AI tools to prototype and build solutions that get rolled out in days.
- Deliver Insights: Summarize the key insights you develop, and deliver them to the Board, to guide the company’s strategy.
- Advise the CEO and Board: Prepare and present weekly updates on your work and roadmap.
- Build for the Long Term: Leave behind robust, self-sustaining systems and data the team can operate long after your engagement ends.
What You’ll Get
- High Ownership and Autonomy: You diagnose the problems, recommend the roadmap and agree it with the company’s leadership, then build and ship the approved work yourself. Your work will be in the hands of real users within days, not quarters.
- Board-Level Exposure: Present to a board and work alongside a CEO and an active investor. Most operators wait a decade for this seat at the table.
- Private Equity from the Inside: Get a front-row view of how an active, long-term investor works alongside a founder-led business to govern and grow it.
- Hypergrowth Learning Curve: Six to nine months of hands-on operating, building, and reporting here will teach you more than two years of traditional advising.
- A Path Forward: If you do exceptional work and want to keep building with us, there is a permanent role for you at Rundle when the engagement wraps.
Who You Are
- You have 3 to 6 years of experience at a top-tier consulting firm (Bain, BCG, McKinsey) or in BizOps, Strategy & Operations, or Chief of Staff roles at a high-growth technology company.
- You deeply understand how elite product and operations teams move, prioritize, and execute.
- You are a daily practitioner of AI tools and have built real things with them (automations, internal tools, custom agents, or high-leverage workflows).
- You get energy from shipping and implementation.
- You have high user empathy. You can sit with a frustrated user, unearth the root cause, and build the fix.
- You have led change that people had to adopt, and you know how to win over the people who will run it after you leave.
- You communicate with clarity, precision, and brevity to senior audiences.
- You thrive in ambiguity. You don't need a playbook, a large team, or perfect requirements to start building.
Bonus Points
- Experience in a sales-driven, highly operational, or commission-based environment.
- Prior exposure to private equity, portfolio operations, or founder-led businesses.
