About Stellarex Energy
At Stellarex Energy, we are building foundational technology for the clean energy transition by harnessing stellarator fusion to provide safe, reliable, and carbon-free baseload power. Turning this ambitious physics and engineering goal into industrial reality requires an exceptional, mission-driven team. If you are ready to solve one of humanity's greatest technological challenges and build transformative hardware from the ground up, we invite you to join our team in the Greater Toronto Area.
Role Overview
Stellarex Energy is seeking an experienced, highly structured Project Manager to lead the operational execution and baseline delivery of our prototype stellarator facility in the Greater Toronto Area. Reporting directly to the Stellarex CEO and interfacing with the Tri-Party Steering Committee of the fusion energy project, you will serve as the master operational leader of the Integrated Project Team (IPT). In this critical leadership role, you will hold overall responsibility for project scope, budget management, master WBS scheduling, risk mitigation, procurement integration, and partner reporting across all six project divisions, ensuring that complex engineering and physics milestones are delivered on time and within target cost.
Core Responsibilities
· WBS Baseline & Scope Integration: Serve as master operational custodian of the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), managing deliverables, schedule baselines, and critical path dependencies across all six operational divisions (Project Office, Science, Stellarator, Auxiliary Systems, Design Office, and Plant & Host Site).
· Cost & Schedule Control: Direct financial performance and cost control against the target-cost prime delivery contract, utilizing Earned Value Management (EVM), cost variance analysis, and schedule risk management across all phase-gate baselines.
· Tri-Party Governance & Partner Reporting: Act as the primary operational interface to the Tri-Party Steering Committee, delivering monthly trend analysis reports, WBS progress dashboards, change log summaries, and Steering Committee briefings.
· Phase-Gate & IPT Leadership: Lead cross-functional engineering and physics teams through formal phase-gate milestone reviews (Design Reviews, Factory Acceptance Testing, Site Assembly, and System Commissioning).
· Contract & Procurement Strategy: Coordinate procurement execution across fixed-price hardware subcontracts, long-lead materials procurement, and Time & Materials (T&M) specialized engineering services in alignment with Project Execution Plan guidelines.
· Risk, Quality & Change Management: Maintain the master Technical and Strategic Risk Register, manage baseline Engineering Change Requests (ECRs/ECOs), and enforce Quality Assurance standards across all contractor deliverables.
· Safety, Regulatory Compliance, Configuration Management & Integrated Commissioning: Oversee hazard assessments, permitting support, configuration baseline control, engineering change governance, operational readiness reviews, and final system acceptance to ensure safe, compliant, and successful facility startup and handover.
Required Qualifications & Experience
· Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear, or Systems), Physical Sciences, or Project Management. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is considered essential.
· Experience: 8+ years of progressive project management experience directing complex, multi-disciplinary hardware engineering, capital equipment, or major facility infrastructure projects from design through assembly and commissioning.
· Industry Experience: Prior project management experience in one or more of the following sectors is highly desirable and considered a major asset, e.g. nuclear fission or fusion, aerospace, big-science and particle accelerators, and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) firms. Complete lifecycle project management experience is essential.
· Earned Value & Schedule Mastery: Expert command of project controls software, Earned Value Management (EVM), financial variance reporting, and WBS critical path optimization.
· Nuclear Quality & Engineering Change Protocols: Demonstrated familiarity with nuclear management systems, formal design review procedures, and engineering change control workflows.
· Stakeholder & Team Leadership: Proven track record managing cross-functional technical teams, negotiating vendor subcontracts, and communicating project status effectively to executive stakeholders and external partner steering committees.
